FaceKey Corporation is a leading manufacturer of a suite of biometric based products to serve industrial and commercial users. Today the product line is: access control, time and attendance and muster stations. FaceKey, a Texas corporation, is located in San Antonio, TX. Incorporated in 1999, we have several patents and have pioneered the development of a suite of products that utilize fingerprints or face recognition for identification.
The company’s earliest products utilized the now archaic silicon readers and archaic technology, which recognized points on fingertips, i.e. minutiae point analysis. The silicon readers are sensitive to moisture and in certain climates and outdoors the readers may not be operational. And, as for minutiae point analysis for fingerprint recognition – we didn't know in the early days that in a population of more than 75 or so persons, two or more persons could have the same minutiae points – hence the error known as “false positive”. The manufacturers were very clever and added another identifier, i.e. card or PIN which is touted as multi modal identification: TRUE, but also essential. And, while these first products were very promising, we recognized that users needed products that are easy to use and with recognition technology approaching an accuracy rate of 100% without need of a card. We needed to get better.
As for face recognition, over the years, some products using face recognition over promised and under delivered. And, it is not an exaggeration to say that the market was soured for suppliers of first-class products. Now, mid 2010, FaceKey is offering face recognition for access control or time and attendance. This new product(s) solves many of the issues that existed in the earlier models: lighting and price. For a reasonable price, today, anyone can open their door or clock in for work with a glimpse of their face.
And, what about the trend to network products? We were early, but all the FaceKey products operate on common networks employing protocols common in the industry. We utilize a suite concept of core software and shared database(s) so that all units can operate in a mix/match fashion. Each unit is a node on the network where it can be managed and maintained by staff. Installation costs are reduced and training is minimal. Yet another way for the customer to reduce its operating costs. The open architecture ensures that the system is fully integrated, scalable and easily customized so that new modules and features and new applications can be added.
At the end of the day, our mission is not changed: We identify persons for our customers so they can have the most efficient business processes, a safe workplace and if an emergency should arise be prepared to count the unaccounted. We build products that we use in our own business. Security, safety, labor cost management and crisis management are important for FaceKey.
